Joel Oppenheimer, LCSW

We all tell stories. We tell children stories about the world in which they live, we tell each other stories about who we are, and we tell ourselves stories about our own lives. What we’ve experienced, our families, and what we hold most dear, all feature prominently in our personal narrative. My work is helping you evaluate that narrative and identify the mind patterns or perspectives that are helpful and those that are harmful. What are the stories you’ve been telling yourself? Are they really true for you? Let’s create the story you want to live today.

With a Master’s from the Hunter School of Social Work and an LCSW, I have worked as a psychotherapist and a social worker for twelve years in San Francisco and New York. Part of everyone’s change process is learning how to take healthy risks, and I create a safe and confidential space to do that. Having feelings and fears is natural; often these feelings are your body trying to call attention to something in your life that needs to change. As a yoga teacher and practitioner, I see the combination of yoga and psychotherapy as finally bringing together two of the most powerful tools for healing.
